This month we have travelled less distance than any month since we started narrowboat cruising, just 23 miles,16 locks and 29 swing bridges. We haven’t lost interest but have been moving at weekends only to enable us to spend time with niece Lisa who like most younger people have to go to work five days a week.

We spent the last three days of May and the first six days of this month exploring the interesting market town of Skipton. There is a fabulous walk along the Springs Branch Canal that takes you past the castle that we did on a lovely sunny day – fabulous.

One memorable evening was spent in Skipton Town Hall Theatre listening to a local community choir, a very professional amateur group.

All good things must come to an end and so on Wednesday 6th we left Skipton behind and cruised just under 8 miles to another pleasant town, Silsden, where we spent 10 days with our feet up doing a great deal of nothing, we don’t even have photographs to remind us of those dreamy days.
Lisa (and Roxy her Staffie dog) joined us on Saturday 17th and over the next two days we travelled to Shipley town centre where we moored on some very secure moorings on the offside (non-towpath side) of the canal sadly they were short term mooring so next day we moved on to Apperley Bridge. We need to go back to Essex this week so had tried to book a few days in the Apperley Bridge Marina but there was no berths available however the marina manager said he had never heard of a boat being broken into at Apperlet Bridge and if we moored opposite his office we would be covered by one of their security cameras which he would keep an eye on to esure our boat was safe.

Lisa was owed a couple of days holiday and kindly offered to drive us to Essex for our appointments, we had a pleasant time and, on our return, were relieved to find the boat just as we left it.

Our last move of June was just 2 miles which took us to just outside Rodley which we will tell you about in the next update.
