This free municipal aire is in the village of Nova Aldeia da Luz, the “Nova” (New) in the name is because after it was built in 2002 all the residents from Aldeia da Luz were moved to the Nova Aldeia da Luz, the old demolished and the valley flooded as part of the Alqueva Dam reservoir.
The aire has a barrier and a sign that says it costs €5 per night but the barrier was up and we understand has been for some considerable time. All services, black and grey water disposal, fresh water and rubbish disposal are all free but the EHU’s need tokens that can be bought at the local mini-mart, we didn’t need an EHU so don’t know the cost.
There was plenty of room for around 15 motorhomes
There is a feral dog living in the field behind the aire who made his presence known in the afternoon but was (mostly) quiet during the night, more a pain for us was a French motorhome that parked next to us, the woman didn’t “speak” to her husband she shouted at him in an angry tone, I assume it was her husband as no boyfriend would put up with the abuse the poor man received. The third problem was two rented motorhomes who turned up at around 8pm and disgorged a number of totally uncontrolled children that screamed and shouted till around 10pm as they played in and out of the parked motorhomes. They made so much noise their parents had to shout at each other while they ate an alfresco meal
The previous paragraph would not stop us from staying here again most aires change population every day and this is a pleasant place to spend a night or two
