There are now many ways to overnight in a motorhome, the traditional sites that we have used hundreds of times over the years while caravanning has expanded through a whole proliferation of phone apps, some of which eg park4night tell you all sorts of places that people have in the past “got away” with parking overnight including road side laybyes and car parks while Brit Stops, another phone app, tell you about pubs, farm shops and such that allow overnighting in their car park provided you spend money in their bar, restaurant or shop.
We will probably use proper sites in UK and Brit Stops on our way to /from an area we wish to visit. However in mainland Europe there is a huge tolerance, particularly in France, of motorhomes overnighting in all sorts of odd places some costing a few Euros some free which is where other apps (Campercontact , Park4nite and Search for Sites etc,) come into their own
